Species text
This ground beetle is a local, southern species that extends northwards only as far as Newark, Nottinghamshire and Spurn Head, Yorkshire ? although many records in Luff (1998) are pre-1970. It lives typically on bare ground in damp sandy or limestone grassland near freshwater, at the margins of lakes and ponds, also river banks, gravel and clay pits. It is predatory, and appears to be subterranean, found in the soil, under stones and in flood litter. References
